When to Start Your HPSP Computer Rental

HPSP students are eager to take full advantage of their HPSP Scholarship benefits as soon as possible. Many students, however, are unclear about how soon they are able to make reimbursable purchases prior to the initiation of their scholarship. This article will help Health Professions Scholarship Program recipients understand when they are able to rent a laptop and make other necessary purchases in preparation for the first day of school.

Each branch of the HPSP Scholarship (Air Force, Army, and Navy) has different regulations regarding reimbursable purchases prior to school starting. Every HPSP scholarship recipient has an eligibility date that coincides with the first day of school for the year the scholarship begins. Some students have an orientation week prior to school starting, and it is important to note that the first day of orientation is NOT the same as the first day of school. The first day of school, which is the same as the scholarship eligibility date, occurs after orientation week is over and is determined to be the day that classes commence.

The Air Force will reimburse HPSP recipients for the purchase of necessary books, supplies, and computer rentals up to 60 days prior to the scholarship eligibility date (or the first day of classes).

The Army and Navy will reimburse HPSP recipients for the purchase of necessary books, supplies, and computer rentals up to 45 days prior to the scholarship eligibility date (or the first day of classes).

Students on the HPSP Scholarship, who haven’t actually started school, can make certain purchases up to 60 days (Air Force) or 45 days (Army and Navy) before school starts and still be reimbursed for the items. The student simply makes these purchases within the corresponding window of time and once school starts or scholarship eligibility is initiated, a reimbursement request is made for the purchase(s). The student is then reimbursed for the purchase(s) within a few weeks of submitting a reimbursement request.

Items that can be purchased prior to school include required textbooks, computer rentals, and other necessary supplies. For a detailed list of supplies that are approved to be purchased prior to school, please contact your branch HPSP representative.

Although students aren’t required to make these purchases prior to school starting, Laptops For Military Docs highly recommends that HPSP students at least get their computer rental started, so they are ready to meet the demands of their professional program on day one of school.  Some students are apprehensive about making large purchases before ensuring that everything is in place with their scholarship once school begins. However, Laptops For Military Docs guarantees every rental, and if a student happens to not be reimbursed for their HPSP computer rental once school starts then they will be issued a full refund for the rental amount. More details about refunds can be found in the following article: What Happens If I Don't Get Reimbursed For My HPSP Computer Rental?

It is beneficial for students to get their HPSP Laptop Rental as soon as they are able to in order to maximize the benefits of the HPSP Scholarship. If a student does not choose to rent a computer prior to school starting, they can still rent a computer at any time prior to graduation, as long as they have at least one year of scholarship eligibility remaining.

If you are an HPSP Scholarship Recipient, make sure to get your computer rental order placed prior to school starting to take full advantage of your scholarship. We look forward to working with you and wish you the best of luck in your service!
